Welcome to the website of Vintage Travel Trailers Limited. I have always had a passion for vintage Airstream travel trailers and eventually I imported one for my family to use. Unwittingly, I started something which has gone way beyond a hobby!
I specialise in the importation and restoration of Airstreams and other American travel trailers from the 1950's to the early 1970's.
There are many things to consider when purchasing a vintage travel trailer and you must take time to understand the legalities of towing your travel trailer with your particular vehicle. All American travel trailers have electricaly operated brakes which, whilst very efficient, are not legal in the UK.
If you wish to tow your trailer in the UK, a bespoke replacement axle will have to be fitted, along with a 50 mm tow hitch and a handbrake. In order to do this, the 'A' frame is cut off and a replacement one welded back to the main chassis.
In addition, the running lights will need to be re-wired to UK specification with the addition of orange indicators. I normally use the original rear lights for side and stop and add 1960's chrome indicators to the rear bumpers at the correct height.
I also fit bespoke transformers and add 230 volt hook up systems so you can enjoy the US equipment as fitted and have the benefit of UK sockets. I can arrange for the original gas appliances to be safety checked.
These conversions and many other bespoke refinements, such as making and fitting vintage-style awnings, can be undertaken for you, or I am happy to put you in touch with the specialists company that can help you.
I only import the very best of the many that I am offered and my stock is constantly changing. Should you want something specific, please let me know and I can search on your behalf.
